All Hail Jonathan Saunders
The winner of the highly coveted Vogue/British Fashion Council Designer Fashion Fund Award 2012 was announced yesterday as Scottish designer Jonathan Saunders.
The £200,000 fund is awarded to up and coming designers to help develop their label and enhance their reputations. He was up against the likes of Mary Katrantzou, Richard Nicoll, Peter Pilotto, Roksanda llincic, Nicholas Kirkwood, Marios Schwab and Meadham Kirchhoff – and you don’t get bigger or better rising stars than those.
Saunders is known for using traditional silk screen printing to create unique and distinctive designs, and for having a vibrant and modern take on femininity. From through his pre-collection on net-a-porter.com, the Avery and Renton dresses epitomise the relaxed glamour that is so synonymous with Jonathan Saunders; who graduated from the illustrious Central St Martin’s and went on to work alongside Alexander McQueen, Christian Lacroix at Pucci and Phoebe Philo at Chloé.
The prize has previously been awarded to Erdem Moralioglu and Christopher Kane, who since winning have both gone on to become global fashion superstars – hopefully the same will happen to Saunders because he thoroughly deserves it.
